The Direct Energy Buzz – July 29th edition

It’s Friday and that means it’s time for another addition of the Direct Energy Buzz!

Here’s what you might have missed on our Blog, Facebook and Twitter.

First things first: Have you entered our Back-to-School Sweepstakes on Facebook? We announced this week that we are giving away a brand new MacBook Pro laptop and $500 American Express gift card (plus a gift card each week!) when you “Like” Direct Energy on Facebook and enter the sweepstakes.

Now, let’s get down to business. We all know what summer means: Vacations! Beachs! Heat! And with the high temperatures, come high energy consumption and high electric bills. Direct Energy wants to help Texans regain control of their electricity bill with a new way to pay.

But Texans aren’t the only ones with energy bills on the raise so we offered up a way to turn off the stove at dinner time and bring down your energy bill with Simple Salad recipes from the New York Times.

Speaking of the heat, have you ever left something in your car only to return to it and find it had completely melted? Yeah, us too… Here’s a list of 12 things to NEVER leave in your car.

So, what are your plans for this weekend? Will you be tending to a home garden or planting some new flowers? Shade trees can really help cool your home in the summer, lowering your need to run the air conditioner. But, as we discussed on our Blog, you should be mindful of some often-overlooked dangers.

It looks like Tropical Storm Don is headed to the Gulf Coast. We hope Texas gets some much-needed rain but be sure to take cover! If you haven’t already, make sure you get your Disaster Supply Kit ready. Hurricane Season is upon us!

And lastly, the Direct Energy Job of the Week is for a Web Producer in Toronto! Go to DirectYourEnergy.com and search HRC0000002I for more information and to apply.

Thank you foxrosser for the melting popsicle picture.
