Boxing Day is celebrated the day after Christmas in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and some other commonwealth nations. This holiday is much like the American Black Friday, with dramatic price reductions and sales in retail stores. Partaking in various sporting events is also a tradition on Boxing Day.
Though several theories exist about the holiday’s origin, many believe it came about from the song “Good King Wenceslas,” which brought about a tradition of alms giving. In Ireland, Boxing Day is known as St. Stephen’s Day.
