Direct Energy Buzz – July 6th edition

If you’re like us, you’re still in post-July Forth recovery mode. Did  you have a good one? Hope it was safe and fun and that everyone followed our Fourth of July safety tips. What did you think of the Big Bay fireworks fiasco in San Diego, where 15 minutes of fireworks went off all at once? Talk about a big bang! In case you were busy celebrating, here’s a recap of all the things we brought your way on Facebook, Twitter and our DE blog.
Our Facebook fan page now has almost 20,000 likes—welcome to all our new members! We encourage you to visit our page and click through to the Featured Poll we posted yesterday. We love finding out what’s on your mind!

The media continues to report on the heat in the south, power outages in the northeast, and now heat advisories in Canada. As the temperature rapidly reaches 100 degrees, it’s important to prepare for dangerous heat related illnesses such as heat stroke, especially if you spend a significant amount of time outdoors. Our Tuesday blog post offered a whole bunch of tips for how to beat the heat.  Monday’s blog post covered a time-honored summer treat that cools us down: ice cream! And not just any ice cream. We showed you how to make it yourself with recipes like this one for making homemade Cookies ‘N’ Cream ice cream without an ice cream maker.

How about a great  Chicken Tetrazzini  recipe and how-to video?  Colleen Wassell, one of our Harrisburg PA customer, shares both in a blog post we did about our Free Power Day program.

‪Here are the #ReduceYourUse ‪#SaveEnergy tips we posted this past week on Twitter:

  • Use sprinklers for large areas of grass. Water small patches by hand to avoid waste.
  • When doing laundry, match the water level to the size of the load.
  • Shorten your shower by a minute or two and you’ll save up to 150 gallons per month.

That wraps it up! Hopefully the, beat-the-heat tips, homemade ice cream recipes and our summer-themed DE Spotify Channel will help keep you happy through all this heat. Stay cool out there, everyone!  And be sure to check back in next week for another edition of the Direct Energy Buzz.
