Going Green in the Garden
How green is your thumb? Gardening is a great way to spend time outside, grow fresh produce and get to know Mother Nature a little better. As you prepare to sow your garden, keep these eco-friendly tips in mind.
- Water wisely—Add mulch and compost to soil for better water retention, use drip irrigation or soaker hoses instead of sprinklers and water early in the day to avoid evaporation!
- Eat what you grow—Plant seeds for vegetables such as tomatoes, radishes and carrots. These veggies are easy to grow and they make tasty additions to energy efficient, organic recipes!
- Avoid pesticides—Protect your plants with natural, household items instead of chemicals. Garlic, cayenne pepper, eggshells and coffee grounds are all deterrents to pests.
