Did You Know…Ways To Reduce Your Use
Halfway through the workweek! Get excited! There are many ways to be eco-friendly and energy efficient. However, there are some tips that may not be as obvious, even to us at Direct Energy. In efforts to continue our commitment for an energy-efficient 2013 (remember those New Year’s resolutions?), here are some ways to reduce your use. Did you know:
- Empty freezers use more energy than full ones. To maximize your energy efficiency, fill your freezer with gallon containers of water.
- In the summer, your ceiling fan should run counterclockwise in order to create a downward airflow. In the winter, your ceiling fan should run clockwise in order to circulate warm air.
- Slow cookers are one of the best and tastiest ways to save energy in the kitchen. The low-and-slow method cooks your food with small amounts to energy.
- A leaky toilet can waste around 400 gallons of water a month! Check for leaks by putting dye tablets or food coloring in the tank. If color appears in the bowl without flushing, it’s time to call a plumber.
- Your dryer exhaust vent should be on the outside of your house in order to reduce the workload on your air conditioner.
