Direct Energy Buzz – June 1st edition

How is it already June?

If the world seems a little louder these days, the end of the school year must be at hand.  Don’t worry, it’ll be a dull roar by August, and we’ve got some great ideas to get you through summer with more money in your pocket and a little sanity to spare.

Now that your kids are home from school (and your power bills are climbing), it is the perfect time to help them focus on greening their own habits and attitudes.  Our Twitter team found a link that can help get the conversation started.

One habit parents have fought hard to instill since the beginning of time (or at least since the invention of electricity) is turning off unused lights when you leave the room.  We had a great blog post about the financial rewards of just such a habit, as well as some other high tech ways of cut your lighting costs at home or work.

And like the rest of the world, Direct Energy has caught the Pinterest bug!  If you’re not familiar with the site, its great way to share your interests, styles, projects and pursuits with friends through photos.

Make sure you check out our Facebook story about a new fossil discovery.  Imagine a tyrannosaurus, but slightly cuter, because everyone loves a dinosaur with tiny arms. And could skin cancer have killed all those sun loving T-Rexes, Raptors, and other assorted giants?  Probably not, but it can be deadly for the rest of us.  That’s why we’re happy to spread the message of Skin Cancer Awareness Month as it draws to a close.  We have a lot of long summer days ahead of us, but there’s a healthy way to stay sunny!

One last thing of interest, especially for anybody still wondering if high gas prices are really changing the way we live. Check out this very interesting tweet that should help you answer that question.

Have a great weekend!
